Engela Gobregts’s Equine Photography
My passion for horses and photography stems from my childhood. My two sisters and I grew up with our own horses in South Africa and since a very early age we’ve had the privilege of owning and getting to know Arabian Horses. To me the Arabian, symbolizes spirituality, intuitivity, sensitivity, freedom, power, commitment, sensuality, beauty, courage and agility amongst other things. Nowadays my sister and brother-in-law breed and train Arabian Horses on their stud farm, Saruk Arabians, where I am privileged to spend precious time with these magnificent creatures. It is here where I take most of my photographs of horses.

Horses inspire my imagination and creativity. They give me goals, hope and help me to fulfil my dreams. Horses teach me about my own emotions and intuitive abilities. For me, being around horses is about mindfulness and simplicity in life. When I am in touch with horses I am most encouraged and this is the time when my spiritual connection with all of life and the world around me is most enhanced. I feel a special connection with Arabian Horses.
I can feel them speak to my soul. This deep connection is impossible to put into words but I try to capture a sense of that with my camera, together with my printing techniques, especially the black and white analog hand printing for which I have a great passion. Recently I have started to explore the world of digital photography too.
I hope that you will be able to sense and experience a bit of that spirit which I am trying to capture in my images. Enjoy!
